Bauma Exhibition | Perkins showcases five new engines to address China's Stage IV non-road upgrade strategy

The 2018 Shanghai bauma exhibition is scheduled to be held from November 27 to 30, 2018, with Perkins grandly debuting five new engine models.
Visitors to the Perkins booth will have the opportunity to learn firsthand how this British engine manufacturer is leveraging its extensive experience in meeting emission reduction requirements across global markets to support Chinese customers, helping them better prepare for the implementation of China's non-road Stage IV emission standards in 2020.

"The Stage IV standard is China's first non-road equipment emission standard involving the use of after-treatment technology, which will be a significant change for OEMs," said Tommy Quan, Perkins Asia Sales and Distribution Director. "However, if OEMs plan properly and choose experienced partners like Perkins, the upgrade process can be smooth. Perkins has accumulated extensive experience in developing two generations of low-emission technologies. We have provided engines and after-treatment solutions for over 500,000 non-road equipment units, with a total operating time exceeding 500 million hours."
"One important point is that we cannot simply think of adding some technology, such as after-treatment, to the existing Stage III engines to meet the new standards. When designing Stage IV engines, different technologies need to be integrated and work together to create the best solution. Only by adopting this approach can we achieve the reliability required by our OEM customers," Tommy added.
To meet the new limits of China's non-road Stage IV standards, manufacturers will need to use different technologies across various power ranges. This means there will be no single "ideal solution." For example, the technology that meets the requirements for 50kW equipment will not satisfy the 150kW requirements, and 250kW equipment will require another solution. Perkins will offer multiple engine models within the power range covered by the Stage IV standard, employing technologies including electronic control, common rail injection systems, advanced turbocharging, Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR), and Diesel Particulate Filters (DPF).
These technologies are applied respectively in the five new engine models debuting at the Perkins booth. The characteristics of these models are as follows:

(Perkins 403EA-17)
This 3-cylinder 1.7L engine features a simple and highly reliable design without the need for after-treatment devices; power can reach up to 26kW, and torque up to 106Nm. This engine is very popular in the European mini excavator market and is an ideal solution for China's growing small machinery segment.

(Perkins Syncro 3.6 litre)
This 4-cylinder 3.6L Perkins® Syncro engine is the latest member of the product line, with power and torque reaching up to 75kW and 430Nm respectively. This engine not only operates with very low noise but also achieves high power density by combining a responsive "smart" turbocharger, making it suitable for many compact and small-to-medium equipment, and an excellent choice to replace larger engines.

(Perkins 1204EA-E44TTA)
This 4-cylinder 4.4L engine uses common rail injection technology and is equipped with sequential twin turbochargers, resulting in outstanding power density; power is 140kW, torque 825Nm. It is a new design evolved from Perkins' well-received US Tier 4 and EU Stage V engines. This model is an ideal solution for OEMs designing smaller equipment or upgrading existing products to meet non-road Stage IV standards.

(Perkins 2406EA-E13TA)
This 6-cylinder 13L engine is a new engine platform making its debut in the Chinese market; power can reach up to 430kW, and torque up to 2,634Nm, making it the perfect choice for various medium-sized machinery seeking strong power.

(Perkins 2806EA-E18TA)
This 6-cylinder 18L engine delivers power and torque up to 470kW and 2953Nm respectively. The design of this model meets the power demands for production efficiency of OEMs and end-users using large mining and engineering equipment.
