Perkins India Aurangabad Plant Receives First Engine Production Task

Construction began in August 2012, installation of production facilities started in July 2013, employee recruitment and training took place in April 2014, and process validation was completed in June 2014. Construction began in August 2012, production facilities installation started in July 2013, employees were recruited and trained in April 2014, and process validation was completed in June 2014. Recently, Perkins welcomed the first batch of engine production tasks at the Aurangabad factory in India, marking the official commissioning of the Aurangabad production facility.   According to Mr. Simon Gray, Product Marketing Manager of Perkins Engine Company, the Aurangabad factory is pioneering in terms of investment: the $150 million investment will create growth by extensively establishing partnerships and manufacturing world-class engine products; Perkins also invested $20 million in high-quality tools and software programs. "Currently (in the first year of operation), the Aurangabad factory has a capacity of 3,000 units, with potential to increase to 5,000 units in the future. Additionally, we expect that by 2016, 85% of engine components will be localized," Mr. Gray told reporters.

4000 Series Engines

  It is understood that the Perkins 4000 series engines include multiple 6, 8, 12, and 16-cylinder diesel and spark-ignited natural gas engines. Their design fully considers the most stringent technical requirements in today's power generation industry, especially in the standby power market; they feature market-leading power density with power ranges from 750-2250 kVA (prime power); they share many common parts for easy maintenance; no power derating is needed under high ambient temperature and high altitude conditions; they have excellent load acceptance, with the first load step up to 73%; configurations are available to meet emission regulations in markets implementing emission controls (optimal fuel consumption ratio), as well as configurations that comply with various local emission standards.

Natural gas will become the main power generation energy source in the future

  In recent years, smog has hit many cities in China, making both the government and the public witness the urgency of environmental protection. On September 9, Premier Li Keqiang expressed his views on environmental protection at the 2014 Summer Davos Forum, pointing out that the most prominent issues for China are water, air, and soil pollution. However, we have to face the fact that traditional energy sources cause varying degrees of air pollution. According to ExxonMobil's "Outlook for Energy: A View to 2040," global electricity demand will increase by more than 80% by 2040, and natural gas will become the main power generation energy source.

  Taking the Perkins 4008-30TRS as an example. The 4008-30TRS is a turbocharged, air-to-water charge-cooled inline eight-cylinder engine, based on the Perkins 4000 series, which has long been recognized by customers for its excellent performance. Its features include high cost-effectiveness and durable operation, excellent power-to-weight ratio and mechanical efficiency, and significantly improved emissions. It meets the power generation industry's demand for clean and efficient gas engines and is the preferred engine in today's power generation industry. This engine is equipped with a modern oil return injection cooling system that strictly controls piston temperature. Components have longer service life, increasing engine durability while reducing maintenance time, all helping to lower total lifecycle costs. Additionally, customers can choose specifications suitable for natural gas or biogas to ensure optimal performance when using specific fuels.

  Furthermore, to ensure good after-sales support for gas engines, Perkins has established six expert-managed dedicated 4000 series gas engine centers of excellence in major global regions, providing comprehensive support services tailored to the specific needs of the engines. Among these six centers, China has two (operated by Perkins dealer partners Lixing Machinery and Weijia Power), demonstrating Perkins' emphasis on the Chinese market.
