Valves play an important role in Perkins engines. They are responsible for allowing air into the cylinder during the first stroke of the four-stroke cycle and for expelling exhaust gases during the fourth stroke when the combustion cycle is complete.
In the first stage, the intake valve opens to allow air to enter the cylinder after passing through the air filter. In the second stroke, when the air is compressed to a very high temperature (about 1300°F), the intake valve closes, creating a fully sealed environment. During the third stroke, when combustion occurs, both valves remain closed. In the fourth stroke, the exhaust valve opens to allow exhaust gases to be expelled.

To ensure these operations are completed, valves must be capable of long-term operation at extremely high temperatures, thousands of times per minute. This is where precision engineering shines. Perkins original parts ensure these requirements are met because they are specifically designed and built for the particular needs of your engine model.
Poor or improper valve maintenance often leads to problems, so valves should be regularly inspected and replaced if necessary when replacing seals.
