Perkins: A good fuel filter can help improve engine efficiency
The fuel filter is a relatively simple part on any engine. It is inexpensive and almost effortless to replace. However, if you choose to ignore it, when it fails or proves insufficient, it can ultimately cause costs several times its own value.

The fuel filter is a relatively simple part on any engine. It is low-cost and almost effortless to replace. However, if you choose to ignore it, when it fails or proves ineffective, it can ultimately cause expenses several times its own value.
The main function of the fuel filter is to prevent useless materials from entering the fuel supply system, which is a standard feature of all internal combustion engines.
Even standard diesel from gas stations requires the use of a filter. Besides blocking dust and other contaminants, if your machinery operates in remote areas and stores diesel in metal barrels, preventing rust from entering the combustion chamber is also an important consideration, as many of our engines work in some of the harshest environments in the world.
The main problem caused by dirty fuel is reduced combustion efficiency, which leads to decreased engine power and increased fuel consumption. Particles may damage your injectors, causing wear that results in excessive fuel delivery and eventually requires replacement. On the other hand, particles in the fuel can also clog injectors, leading to fuel shortages in the cylinders and unstable operation. If the engine has trouble starting, it may indicate a clogged fuel filter. All these issues can be avoided by replacing the part as part of a regular maintenance schedule.
Perkins fuel filters typically contain a fine filter paper element. The pores in the filter element are large enough to allow fuel to pass through, yet small enough to capture any useless debris. Some of our engines use dual-layer fuel filters, which are usually found in electronically controlled engines where fuel quality is more critical. We combine fuel filters with water separators to remove moisture from the fuel that can cause rust. The replacement frequency of the fuel filter varies depending on the engine model you use and its operating conditions.
