Thermostat Fault Diagnosis
Since the thermostat is so important, how can one accurately determine if the thermostat is malfunctioning during regular machine operation?
When the engine is cold and running, if there is still a large amount of coolant flowing through the upper radiator hose, it indicates that the thermostat's main valve cannot close.
When the engine coolant temperature exceeds about 70℃, if there is no coolant flowing through the upper radiator hose, it indicates that the thermostat's main valve cannot open properly, and repair or replacement is needed.

Thermostat Inspection Method
After the engine starts, open the radiator cap. If the coolant inside the radiator is still, it indicates the thermostat is working properly; otherwise, the thermostat is malfunctioning.
This is because when the water temperature is below 70℃, the thermostat's main valve is closed. When the water temperature exceeds 80℃, the main valve gradually opens, and the circulating water inside the radiator begins to flow.
When the water temperature gauge indicates below 70℃, if there is water flowing inside the radiator and the water is warm, it means the thermostat's main valve is not tightly closed, causing premature large circulation of coolant and resulting in slow temperature rise.
At the initial stage of engine operation, the water temperature rises quickly. When the gauge indicates 80℃, the temperature rise slows down, indicating the thermostat is working properly. Conversely, if the temperature keeps rising rapidly until an alarm state, it means the thermostat is damaged.
When the water temperature gauge indicates between 70℃ and 80℃, if the water temperature at the radiator fill port is low and there is no or very little water flowing out of the radiator's upper water chamber inlet pipe, it indicates the thermostat's main valve cannot open. Normally, the temperature difference between the upper and lower radiator hoses should not be too large.
