【Perkins】Parts Maintenance Knowledge - Engine Air Filter Maintenance Indicator
Some engines are equipped with an intake pressure differential gauge, which displays the pressure difference measured before and after the air filter element. When the air filter element becomes dirty, the pressure differential increases.
Some engines are equipped with an intake pressure differential gauge, which shows the pressure difference measured before and after the air filter element. When the air filter element becomes dirty, the pressure differential increases.
The air filter maintenance indicator may be installed on the air filter or at a remote location. Some engines may have maintenance indicators different from this.

(Typical maintenance indicator)
Observe the maintenance indicator; when any of the following occurs, the air filter element should be cleaned or replaced:
• The yellow diaphragm enters the red zone.
• The red plunger locks in a visible position.
The maintenance indicator is an important device,
and needs to be checked daily.
• Check if the reset is flexible. The maintenance indicator should reset with fewer than 3 presses.
• When the engine accelerates to its rated speed, check the movement of the yellow core. The yellow core should lock roughly at maximum vacuum. If the maintenance indicator does not reset or the yellow core cannot lock at the maximum vacuum position, the maintenance indicator should be replaced. If the new maintenance indicator also cannot reset, the installation hole of the maintenance indicator may be blocked.
If necessary, in severely dusty environments, the maintenance indicator may need to be replaced frequently.
